Realizing that the needs of industry are becoming more sophisticated, institutes of higher learning in Northwest Louisiana have begun implementing educational programs to prepare citizens to meet these needs. Northwest Louisiana offers five state universities, two private 4-year colleges, a medical school and a community college. The high quality of the faculties at these institutions offer industry an expert source for consultation and research projects, as well as specialized in-plant training for business and industry on a con-tinuing educational basis.
Centenary College - Shreveport
- The oldest private college west of the Mississippi River, Centenary is located in Shreveport. Primarily a liberal arts college, Centenary offers associate, BA and BS degrees in 34 subject areas, and master's degrees in education and business administration.
Grambling State University
- Located in the town of Grambling, the university offers a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial technology with majors in such areas as metal, electronic, drafting and construction technology.
Louisiana College - Pineville
- Louisiana College, recently recognized for leadership in the field of student character development, is a private, coeducational college of liberal arts and sciences, operated under the auspices of the Louisiana Baptist Convention. Louisiana College is located in Pineville about 1 1/2 miles from the business district of Alexandria.
Louisiana State University - Baton Rouge
- LSU - the flagship institution of the State of Louisiana, is a nationally recognized research institution, home of the "Fighting Tigers" and a community of over 34,000 faculty, staff, and students from every state and more than 120 countries.
LSU Health Sciences Center - Shreveport
- Located in Shreveport, the LSU Health Sciences Center offers a diverse range of programs and functions through its Schools of Medicine, Allied Health Professional and Graduate Studies. The complex's facilities include a comprehensive care clinic, a teaching hospital, medical library, and basic and clinical science departments.
